Race Data Systems M3 CSL Update

Following on from its maiden podium in 2009 it has been a busy winter for the Race Data Systems CSL…

Cooling

After the AiM Pista Dash Logger recorded engine oil temps of 155degs at the last race at Snetterton, cooling had become the primary concern. We also had a few issues with the SMG system with the gearbox mis-selecting gears and over revving the engine towards the end of the race, again due to high oil temps, this time in the gearbox.

To combat this we have now installed additional radiators for oil and gearbox cooling which should hopefully keep temperatures under control, we’ve also taken the precaution of fitting a cooling radiator for the power steering fluid.

Weight

We have lost a lot of weight over the Winter, final weight is unknown but it is hoped that the combined weight savings from the work including air con removal, pollen filters, battery, doors, wings and exhaust will be enough to get the car to around 1250kg.

Another major modification has been the introduction of side exit exhaust, whilst this is obviously the coolest thing ever, it also does away with the large back box and reduces the amount of exhaust tubing required, saving weight and creating space for a large diffuser in the future  ;) whilst on the subject of aerodynamics a new wing from DJ Race Cars (Designed by Aerodynamicist Simon Beath) should also make a noticeable difference this year.
