Troubleshooting MoTeC Ethernet Connections
If you are having trouble connecting via ethernet to your MoTeC Logger or M1 Series ECU the following points may help you:
Check you have a link light
The ethernet port on most laptops will have 2 lights, one is used to indicate that an ethernet cable with an active device at the other end has been connected, and the other is to indicate activity. When you plug your MoTeC device in you should find that your link light comes on to indicate that the physical cable connection between your computer and the Logger \ ECU is active.
If you don’t know what to look for then connect your computer to a known good connection, such as your broadband router and look at the port.
If you don’t get a link light when connecting to your logger or ECU then check the wiring between the MoTeC device and the ethernet port on your vehicle.
Using Windows XP?
Firstly ensure you are on at least service pack 1, MoTeC’s ethernet connection requires IP version 6 and versions prior to that don’t have IP6 available.
The next stage is to ensure that IPv6 is enabled, open a command prompt – press Windows-R, type cmd and hit enter. At the command prompt type ipconfig followed by hitting enter, this will show you the IP configuration associated with each of your network adapters.
If you don’t see an IPv6 address then you’ll need to enable IPv6, this can be done at the command line by typing the following commands in:
netsh
or you can install it using the user interface: 1.Open Network Connections Firewall software references: Windows XP – Installing and configuring IPv6
2.Right-click any local area connection, and then click Properties.
3.Click Install.
4.In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, click Protocol, and then click Add.
5.In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, click Microsoft TCP/IP version 6, and then click OK.
6.Click Close to save changes to your network connection.
Another common issue it firewall software blocking access, disable any firewall software you may have running on your machine and try again.
